The responsibilities of this job include, but are not limited to the following:
- Answering incoming phone calls to the Medical Records Call Center in accordance with all company and departmental policies, with careful adherence to all Federal (HIPAA) and State statutes regarding release of information;
- Logging in Medical Record (MR) requests and scanning associated paperwork into the Cortrak MR database;
- Following the departmental checklist when assigned;
- Reviewing all MR requests for proper authorization; printing the MRs, matching with the requests, updating the materials list, and preparing the billing as appropriate;
- Updating MR status in the database once printed and billed; sending records to the requesting party;
- Ensuring MR requests are responded to within the imposed legal limit.
Minimum education and professional requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:
- High school diploma;
- Prior customer service experience (preferred);
- Prior call center experience (preferred);
- Microsoft application software required, advanced computer skills (preferred);
- Prior experience in a medical records department within an urgent care facility or physician’s office (preferred);
- Basic medical terminology/spelling skills (preferred);
- Excellent oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Ability to prioritize and deal with numerous tasks. Ability to read computer-generated printed reports and hand-written notes;
- Ability to sit for long periods of time (up to 8 hours at a time);
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
